Answers to Some Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the season last?
The intramural season will run from September to the beginning of November. Travel teams play
a fall season during the same time, however practices take place prior to the season in
July and August and many continue with indoor in the winter and a spring
season.
When are practices?
The individual team coaches schedule practices at fields in the Garnet
Valley area. Intramural teams practice once per week, while travel teams typically practice twice
per week. Practices are usually scheduled after normal work hours Monday-Friday.
When are games?
The intramural leagues play games on Saturday mornings. The travel teams
generally play games on Saturdays or Sundays.
Where are the games played?
All intramural games are played on area fields. At BYC, GVMS, Francis
Harvey Green School, and Featherbed Road. Home travel games are played on area fields: BYC, GVMS,
GVHS, and Toland. Away travel games are played at competitors' sites (approximately a one-hour
radius from Garnet Valley).
Do boys and girls play together?
No, there are separate leagues for boys and girls.
Are children placed based on their grade in school or their age?
Players are placed in leagues based on their birth date, not their grade in
school. Our age groups are based on U.S. Youth Soccer Association (USYSA) guidelines.
What is travel soccer?
It is for the more competitive player.
These teams compete against teams from other soccer clubs in Delaware and
Chester Counties.
Boys teams play in the Delco League and Girls teams play in
PAGS (Philadelphia Area Girls Soccer).
Is the travel season longer?
Travel season typically begins in July or early August and may not end until
December. Travel teams will often compete in one or more weekend tournaments and most are active year-round,
playing indoor in the winter. Some travel teams play a short spring season.
How much does it cost?
For 2007, the base registration fee is $55. If you make a travel
team there is an additional $100 fee.
What equipment does my child need to play soccer?
Shin guards are required for all soccer players. Your child will
also need a soccer ball, soccer cleats or turf shoes and a water bottle.
What are the eligible ages?
A child must by 5 years old by July 31 of the current year to play intramural
soccer. A child must be 7 years old by July 31 of the current year to play travel soccer.
Team eligibility is determined by the player's age as of August 1, 2001.
What if my child has never played before?
Now is the time! We encourage players at every level of experience to
participate. Most kids are fairly adaptable and catch on quickly.
What if I change my mind?
We will refund your registration fee.
How do I sign up to coach?
You may volunteer to coach when you register your players on the
Internet. You may also indicate interest at travel tryouts.
