| INTRAMURAL SOCCER More than 1000 boys and girls enjoy playing in our intramural soccer program. Beginner Soccer (Pre-K and K)The Beginner program is designed to give younger players an introduction to soccer in an atmosphere of fun. Weekly practices will emphasize fundamental skills (dribbling, passing etc.), and Saturday games will give the kids a chance to use the basic soccer skills they learned during practice. There is limited emphasis on winning or losing. Our objective is fun and enjoyment. Games are played 4v4 with no goalie, this allows for maximum excitement for parents and kids. Clinic Intramural Program (1st, 2nd and 3rd)The Clinic program is designed to give 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade players an introduction to soccer in an atmosphere of fun. Weekly practices will emphasize fundamental skills, and Saturday games will give the kids a chance to show what they've learned. There is limited emphasis on winning or losing. Our objective is to minimize stress and maximize player enjoyment. Games are played on half-sized fields with 7v7 teams. Intermediate Intramural Program (4th and 5th)The Intermediate program is for 4th and 5th grader players who are enjoying their "golden years" of development. This is typically when kids show great enthusiasm for the sport and even greater improvement in their skills. Weekly practices continue to emphasize fundamental skills, with some teaching of teamwork and tactics. Weekly games feature exciting competition, although winning and losing are still a low priority. Games are played on 2/3-sized fields with 7v7 teams. Advanced Intramural Program (6th, 7th and 8th)The Advanced program for the older players has games during the week as well as on Saturday mornings. Teamwork and tactics are more heavily emphasized, as the players learn and mature. In a change for this year, the games will be 8 v 8 (following EPYSA recommended guidelines) allowing all players more touches in a faster paced environment. |
